Best DoddieAid Ever (Feb 2023)
DoddieAid drew to an exhausted close on Feb 11th when former Scotland rugby captain Rob Wainwright and hundreds of cyclists arrived at Murrayfield to present the Doddie Cup match ball after cycling an epic 555 miles from Cardiff in just 48 hours. Genius Brewing have been a key supporter of DoddieAid throughout its six weeks, donating prizes to fundraisers and events, and helping to promote the campaign’s profile.
2023 is the third year of DoddieAid and the biggest and best yet raising £2m for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Inspired by the memory of Doddie Weir's recent passing, over 38,000 people from across the UK logged millions of miles running, rowing, walking, and cycling, all in aid of MND.
The inaugural DoddieAid Regatta took place on the former Royal Yacht HMS Britannia moored in Leith in Edinburgh. Teams of rowers undertook a gruelling, non-stop relay on Concept 2 rowers to see who could row the furthers in 3 hours. Rowers included former Scotland rugby stars Jim Hamilton, Rory Lawson, Chris Patterson and Iwan Tukalo; Deacon Blue drummer and TV presenter Dougie Vipond; and former Olympic rowers Dame Katherine Grainger and Sarah Winkless.
The weekly 'Wednesday Night Live' webshows hosted by Bruce Aitchison a.k.a. ‘Mr Happiness is Egg Shaped’ featured a fantastic range of celebrities and fundraising guests including a certain Scottish Jedi who has great taste in beer! Each week, Genius Brewing donated prizes to best fundraisers or simply those going the extra mile for MND.
