Gold is Green (Nov 2022)

When we launched Gen!us Craft Lager in 2018, we knew aluminium cans were the future but in 2021, COVID supply chain issues forced a switch to 330ml bottles. Despite being rather elegant, our bottles were not environmentally friendly: heavy to transport, slow to chill, and with a limited ability to be recycled. Now we’re delighted to be able to welcome back our distinctive, stylish gold cans.

Aluminium cans are now the norm for the UK’s leading craft beer brands, and quite right too. Being lightweight reduces CO2 emissions from transport; metal chills more quickly than glass requiring less electricity by fridges; and when it comes to recycling, aluminium cans can be recycled infinitely.

While environmental credentials are key, we also want our cans to capture the essence of our #SmartDrinking brand. This includes our distinct Gen!us Brewing logo, 3% ABV badge, and of course alcohol units and calories right on the front of the can. In 2018, Genius Brewing was the first UK craft beer brand to put UK alcohol units and calorie content on the front of packaging. We believe that health conscious consumers deserve to know exactly what they’re drinking.

Genius Brewing also led the industry in putting full, food-standard nutrition information prominently on the back of our cans: calories, carbs, sugar, protein, fat, and salt. In the UK there is currently no legal requirement to put ANY nutritional information on alcohol products - not calories or even ingredients! How can drinkers make healthier choices without proper information?

Both our Gen!us Craft Lager and Gen!us IPA cans proudly feature the logos of the Vegan Society and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Our light, low-calorie craft beers do not use isinglass, a fish swim bladder extract, in our brewing process. Genius Brewing are Official Fundraising Partners of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Founded by former Scotland and British & Irish Lions rugby star Doddie Weir, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation raises funds to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. We donate 5p from every Gen!us light craft beer to support Doddie’s mission to tackle MND.
