Riding the roads for Doddie (July 2023)

On Sunday July 2nd, over 500 cyclists from across the UK gathered in Melrose in the Scottish Borders for the fifth Doddie Ride. Founded by England and Lions rugby legend Peter Winterbottom, the ride raises funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. For the past three years, Genius Brewing has sponsored the event as part of our on-going support for Doddie’s foundation.

This year’s Doddie Ride offered cyclists of all ages and abilities the option of a 20 mile, 60 mile, or 90 mile route around the beautiful Borders roads, starting and finishing at Melrose Rugby Club. Former Scotland players Rob Wainwright, Craig Chalmers, Carl Hogg, and Roger Baird joined the peleton

Once back at Melrose, all the smiling but weary riders enjoyed some food and a welcome drink from the bar. Cold cans of Gen!us Craft Lager and Gen!us IPA went down a treat with the thirsty riders. After a long cycle, having a light craft beer with a lower ABV was the perfect thirst quencher.

Genius Brewing have been Official Fundraising Partners of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, since we launched in 2018, donating 5p from every Gen!us beer to help realise Doddie’s vision of world free of MND. We also strive to support other MND fundraisers and Foundation events as possible.

At this year’s Doddie Ride, Genius Brewing ran a tasting stall and donated 12 packs of Gen!us light craft beers as raffle prizes, along with Gen!us branded t-shirts. Peter Winterbottom and Craig Chalmers where the day’s Ant & Dec, drawing the raffle in style.

Genius Brewing is on a mission to make healthier drinking a pleasure, not a compromise. Gen!us light craft beers combine great craft flavour with a low ABV and low calories. Our low calorie, 3% light craft beers are perfect for the moderating drinker who wants a great tasting ‘better for you’ option. All Gen!us beers are vegan accredited and proudly carry the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation logo.
